Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department were called on Friday, Feb. 24 to the 13200 block of Stable Brook Way in Reston, where a 911 caller advised that a man had been shot and a woman stabbed inside the home.
Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said that patrol officers responded to the single-family home, where they found a man who died from a gunshot wound a woman who had suffered a stab wound, but was still alive.
She was rushed to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.
Investigators said that four adults and a 4-year-old girl - who was unharmed and is in police custody - were in the home at the time, with two dead and two being investigated by detectives.
“All four adults were inside the home when this happened and we arrived at the scene. All four are accounted for,” Davis said. “It’s such a dynamic scene right now.
“What we know is that two adults were killed, and two (other) occupants, both adults, are accounted for and in our custody right now,” he continued. “We’re not searching for a suspect. No one is outstanding. Everyone inside the home has been accounted for and whatever happened in the home occurred with those people in the home.”
The chief said that there are “different relationships between the four inside the home,” though he wouldn’t specify how they were all known to each other, citing pending next of kin notifications for the victims.
He made note that none of the parties involved were known to law enforcement, there was no sign of a home invasion or break-in, and they are “working out the details and sequence of the violent acts and identify the person exactly responsible for the fatal shooting and the person exactly responsible for the fatal stabbing.”
Davis stressed repeatedly during his conference that there is no threat to the community.
“There is no ongoing threat to public safety in this community … I say again … There is no ongoing threat,” he said. “I see lots of residents gathering, but there is absolutely no ongoing threat to public safety in this community.”
